September Change for Change: Food Co-op Initiative
Food Co-op Initiative partners with communities to build a more just food system, providing critical support as they organize and open community-owned grocery stores. They envision a world where every community has the power and ability to build a thriving cooperative food system that provides them with the food they need and want.
FCI is the only non-profit organization that helps communities across the country start food co-ops (like River Valley Co-op!). They support community organizers from the early exploration period all the way through store opening. They provide customized technical support, trainings, conferences, live webinars, workbooks, guides, and other resources.
FCI helps nearly 100 organizing food co-ops each year — at no charge — because of the generous support of individual donors, organizations, and co- ops like River Valley Co-op.
