July Change for Change: Abundance Farm
Our July Change for Change recipient, Abundance Farm (Northampton, MA), works to build a more generous, just, and sustainable world through earth-based community-building and educational experiences that integrate Jewish tradition, regenerative agriculture, and food justice. The Farm is a unique, welcoming space where people of all ages, faiths, and backgrounds come together for nourishment of body and soul. Pick-Your-Own is the Farm’s free, community harvest program open to the public from sun-up to sun-down from May through October. The Farm grows a wide diversity of vegetables, fruits, berries, herbs, and flowers in a no-till raised bed system that prioritizes soil health and carbon sequestration.
Abundance Farm welcomes thousands of people each year for a wide variety of public events, classes, and celebrations. The Farm provides inspiring, earth-based educational experiences for ~200 students from three partner schools that share a campus with the Farm. The Farm operates a popular paid, teen internship and apprenticeship program (“Shefa”) that focuses on meaningful agricultural work, community building, leadership development, and engagement with food justice values.
The Farm is a project of Congregation B’nai Israel, in collaboration with the Northampton Survival Center and Lander Grinspoon Academy.
