February Change for Change: Valley Community Development

Our February Change for Change recipient is Valley Community Development (Northampton, MA)! This nonprofit has served our community for 35 years by creating and preserving affordable housing, helping small businesses, and making first-time homeownership a reality for our neighbors. Their focus is on assisting people with low and moderate incomes as well as marginalized populations.

Valley Community Development offers free small business counseling services for start-ups and existing businesses, and pre and post-purchase support for home buyers in Franklin, Hampshire, and Hampden counties. They own and build affordable housing with a focus on people with very low incomes and people coming out of homelessness.

Current developments include converting the former nursing home in Northampton into 60 affordable apartments, and the former Econo Lodge in Hadley into 50 affordable apartments.
