Yoga Nidra is often described as “yogic sleep,” but it is much more than a resting practice. In this experiential workshop, we’ll explore Yoga Nidra as a practical tool for cultivating mindfulness, self-compassion, and sustainable change. It can be a useful practice for those who feel tired, overstimulated, or stretched thin.

This session will be offered primarily in a chair-based format, making it accessible and supportive for a wide range of bodies and energy levels. Participants will learn how Yoga Nidra works on the nervous system and how small, intentional shifts in awareness can have a meaningful impact on stress, focus, and emotional resilience over time.

Through guided practice, reflection and discussion, we'll explore...

  • How Yoga Nidra supports mindfulness and self-compassion

  • Why rest can be an active, skillful practice; not a passive one

  • How small, repeatable practices are more likely to "stick" in daily life

  • Simple ways to integrate Yoga Nidra off the mat and into everyday routines

This workshop is well-suited for anyone curious about meditation, managing stress, or building more supportive habits without adding another thing to their to-do list. No prior yoga or meditation experience is necessary.

ABOUT MITRA: HEALING CENTERED YOGA

Mitra: Healing Centered Yoga was founded to make trauma-informed, accessible yoga available through community collaboration. The name Mitra means “one who walks the path with you,” reflecting a commitment to accompaniment rather than hierarchy. The work centers choice, care, and respect for lived experience, recognizing that healing is not one-size-fits-all and cannot be separated from the environments in which people live and receive support.

Mitra partners with organizations and community spaces to offer yoga and wellness practices that are adaptive, inclusive, and responsive to nervous system needs. Rather than replicating traditional studio models, Mitra brings practices directly into spaces serving individuals who have been excluded or overlooked in mainstream wellness settings.

ABOUT ANGELICA LOPEZ

Yoga entered my life early and became a way of reconnecting with safety, agency, and a sense of belonging within myself. Over time, this personal practice evolved into a professional calling.

Today, I am a yoga facilitator with over two decades of practice and extensive training in trauma-informed methodologies, and the founder of Mitra: Healing Centered Yoga.

My work is shaped by more than twenty years of dedicated practice and more than 500 hours of advanced training in trauma-informed methodologies. This foundation allows me to offer practices that integrate adaptive movement, mindfulness, and a deep respect for autonomy, with an understanding of how trauma can shape the body, breath, and nervous system.

Accessibility and community partnership are central to my approach. Before founding Mitra, I organized community-based fundraiser offerings to support local advocacy and racial justice efforts. Since starting Mitra, I have partnered with incredible organizations across Hampshire and Hampden counties to bring trauma-informed yoga directly into spaces serving individuals who are often excluded from traditional wellness settings.

At the heart of my work is a simple belief: people are not broken. Healing is not linear, and it isn’t something to be forced. Yoga offers a way back to the body, the breath, and to the inner wisdom that has always been present. My role is to hold space with care, clarity, and respect, so others can reconnect on their own terms.
