How do we prepare ourselves to give good answers to hard questions? Many, if not most, children have experienced “historic” floods, storms or fires during their short lifetimes and as much as we try to protect them, children see screen images or overhear conversations and they want to understand what’s happening.

Young children (under 10) are not cognitively or emotionally ready to have in-depth conversations about the climate crisis, and current events. This doesn’t mean we deny reality. In this research based conversation, we’ll explore the approaches that help children feel safe, connected and competent when faced with scary realities.
