with Julia Latady, Micro-Farmer & Educator
Owner of Mud & Mycro

Thursdays all Summer! • 10am - 11am
Easthampton Co-op • 228 Northampton St, Easthampton, MA 01027

FREE LIVE and IN-PERSON!

Join us on the Easthampton store patio (or in the community room during inclement weather) for summer family fun each Thursday all throughout June, July and August! These programs will be led by Julia Latady, a local micro-farmer, environmental educator, and owner & founder of Mud & Mycro!

JUNE 2 | SEED BALLS

In this class, we will make seed balls to help spread native wildflowers. You'll get to your clay seed ball home to dry, then throw it in an area where you want wildflowers to grow. The clay ball will break and spread the wildflower seeds!

JUNE 9 | SUNCATCHERS

Create suncatchers using paper plates and contact paper, using colors from both nature and our local farms!

JUNE 16 | MAKING BUTTER

Learn where butter comes from and how it is made. We will learn "The Butter Song" and sing as we make butter together. Once the butter is made, we will have a chance to taste-test (of course)!

JUNE 23 | PAINT LIKE A PIG

At this event, we'll read "Pigcasso" and paint with mud... just like a pig!

JULY 7 | SOLAR OVENS

Bring a shoebox to learn how to build your own solar oven. We will test out our ovens by cooking a tasty apple snack with the power of the sun!

JULY 14 | WOOL-FELTED BALLS

Where does wool come from? What can we do with it? In this class, we will use carded wool to create our own felt balls. This is a great sensory activity for a hot summer day!

JULY 21 | PAPER WASPS

Learn how wasps make their own paper to build their homes! We will have a chance for a close-up exploration of wasp nests (don't worry—nobody is home!), and then we will make our own paper mache wasp nests to bring home.

JULY 28 | PAINT WITH NATURE

We will search for all colors of the rainbow in leaves, flowers, and fruits, then explore ways to paint with nature and create a group painting.

AUGUST 11 | CELEBRATING SEEDS!

Learn about different strategies seeds take to spread and grow. We will create seed bracelets decorated with collected seeds and flower petals to celebrate the diversity of seeds!

AUGUST 18 | VEGGIE GAME AND CRAFT

At this event, we will get to play "Harvest Basket," a sensory game to help us practice our descriptive words. After the game, we will make a veggie harvest craft together!

AUGUST 25 | TEA PARTY

Dress up and bring your favorite stuffed animal for a tea party at River Valley Co-op! We will make our own tea bags using dried herbs from local farms to bring home and enjoy.

ABOUT JULIA LATADY

Julia's passion is in connecting people (especially kids!) to the outdoors and to where our food comes from. Julia worked as an environmental educator for Mass Audubon before building an all-ages education program at a family farm outside of Boston. These days, Julia collects food waste from local cafes and markets to feed her composting crew of red wiggler worms and laying hens in Leverett, MA. She uses the worm castings to grow food year-round and to create microgreen kits so that others can too.

Julia aims to tie her complementary backgrounds in wildlife ecology, nature-based early childhood education, and pottery into her explorations of micro-farming and community education.  You can learn more about Julia, her aspiring micro-farm, and what we grow and create at www.mudandmycro.com or follow them on Instagram at MudandMycro.
