In this hands-on workshop, participants will create a candle holder using old corks and repurposed jars! We will learn to make a sigil which is a symbol one can create using a process by working with the words of our intention. We can then carve that symbol into a votive candle we can burn with intention in our candle holder.

These candles can be burned around the Winter Solstice, or darkest night, to call back the energy of the sun and alight our intentions for the coming year.

ABOUT KATE PARKER

Kate Parker is a theater director, performer, folk herbalist, and practicing kitchen witch living in Western Massachusetts. She grew up in Southeastern Idaho where she dreamed of working in the film industry. As a teen she studied at summer programs in film at UCLA and moved to Oregon to attend college at the University of Oregon. When they dropped their film program, Kate moved to Los Angeles to follow her dream and began working in the industry.

She met her husband, a musician, in 1994 and they embarked on a musical adventure spanning many years, several bands, and a million miles on the road. She toured Europe in the summers and worked with a theater company producing and directing several productions at home in Prescott, Arizona during the rest of the year. Kate also founded and directed a seasonal youth theater program where children created the script, built sets, designed costumes, and performed their play at the end of the 8-week session.

Kate found a love of natural medicine and plant remedies at a young age when a healer taught her the magic of People Paste, a fantastic DIY 3 ingredient powdered herb remedy to plaster wounds and avoid stitches. She has been crafting magic ever since. She is a self taught folk herbalist and is continually learning more. Her favorite plant allies are yarrow and marshmallow.

When COVID hit, she returned to school to finish her BFA in theater and performance art. She graduated college the same month her daughter graduated high school. In 2023 the family packed up and moved to New England. Her daughter is now attending Hampshire College and Kate and her husband are integrating into the community in the Pioneer Valley.
