Meditation Series: Day-to-Day Dharma
The teachings of Buddhism, known as the Dharma, are meant to be simple, vibrant, and easily implemented instructions for life. The Buddha's teachings were made available to all, and he taught that alleviating suffering and enlightenment was attainable for all.
So why does Buddhism often feel so esoteric? Consider the centuries after Buddha's living example, where these teachings are written down, studied, discoursed over, rewritten, translated by scholars, and studied academically. What we are often left with is a stuffy old text that seems unrelatable.
This series aims to breathe life back into the Dharma that creates a framework for more ease, connection, and mindfulness in the day-to-day. Each session will cover a bit of history for context, illuminate key teachings of Buddhism, offer a simple meditation technique, and explore how we can integrate the teachings and meditation into daily life. The sessions do not need to be taken as a series but will build on one another for those that would like to attend all sequentially.
How do we actively walk a path of connection, compassion, and wisdom in a chaotic and challenging world? Buddhist teachings have us take refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha; recognizing the seed of freedom within all of us, seeing clearly the way things are, and honoring the community that carries these teachings beyond text, into life, generation after generation. How do we understand and implement this as regular folks, in our daily lives, moving through practical challenges? What kind of difference does it make?
