Art in the Café: Meditations

is "Meditations" by Doreen LaScola!

My current work has taken a new direction since the start of Covid. It has merged the two worlds nearest and dearest to my creative journey. During Covid, and possibly from emotional need, my abstract studio practice morphed into a repeat-pattern, meditative process. Regardless of the medium I use in each piece, my abstract meditations also took on the spontaneity and energy of my plein air work.

Within each piece and with every repeated mark and impression, there is an inner exploration and journey that reveals itself while referencing the movement & growth in nature. My work seeks to convey the concept that humanity is just one more facet of nature, not independent from it. These pieces subconsciously called to me and begged to come to life. My hope is that the viewer experiences something ‘familiar’ through my abstract marks and forms; thus allowing them to have their own interpretation.

About the Artist 

Doreen LaScola is a mixed and multi-media visual creative who studied art at Minneapolis College of Art & Design, and U-MASS Boston. She is an award winning & juried artist whose work resides in private collections across the United States. She is currently represented at Boulder Art Gallery in Fitchburg, MA, and is a full member of the Oxbow Gallery in Easthampton, MA. Her work has been exhibited at the Oxbow Gallery, Mary Cosgrove Dolphin Gallery, Davis Art Gallery, Arts Worcester, Gallery Sitka, Fitchburg Art Museum, Attleboro Arts Museum and others.
