Art in the Café: Kristi Woodworth Colbert

Our August Art in the Northampton Café gallery is Paper Trails by Kristi Woodworth Colbert!

Kristi W. Colbert is a mixed media artist specializing in painted paper collage, a medium she wandered into experimentally as a means of breaking out of her perfectionism and into her creative freedom. Immediately, she fell in love with the dualistic synergies of collage in both process and aesthetic.

Kristi's work is painterly and sculptural, deconstructive and reconstructive, realistic and abstract, intricate and spontaneous, and intimate and expansive. Working from her home studio in Leverett, MA, Kristi draws great inspiration from the lands that root us in this world. Made entirely of junk mail painted with gouache, pencil, and wax pastel, her work explores the sense, wonder, and often tranquility of place as transportive landscapes, seascapes, and cityscapes emerge from reclaimed paper fragments. Collectively, her work is a record of places traveled, a map to what lies ahead, and an energetic practice in piecing back together this breaking world, finding beauty in what might otherwise be overlooked.

Kristi’s work has been exhibited in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maryland, and Michigan, recognized by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, featured in Gillette Stadium and the Massachusetts State House, and has a fast growing body of collectors near and far.
