D.I.Y. A Fun Way To Start an Indoor Garden

DIY Plastic Bottle Planter

Spring is right around the corner, which means now is the time to start planning your garden. Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle is a founding element of our cooperative and we aim to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle as much as possible!

Reusing plastic bottles is a fun and easy way to create a small garden and plant any herbs, veggies or flowers you want!

Start by cutting an empty bottle in half, or about 1/3 of the way from the bottom. Trim the bottle half to make a clean edge.

Grab some paint and brush on a few layers to make sure it’s fully coated. At least two coats is recommended.

Once the paint is completely dry, use an exacto knife to poke a hole on the side of the bottle half, making sure the holes are symmetrical so the plant will lay balanced when hanging.

Then poke the string through the hole until the bottle half hangs up right. It should not tilt or topple over.

If you do not have plant starters on hand to pot, placing a potted plant in the planter works just as well.

This D.I.Y can be completed in minutes without paint and is a great activity for a Friday evening or during the weekend for yourself or family. Get creative with how it is displayed in your home using twine or other hanging methods. You can also nail or display it on a wooden shelf as a lovely indoor garden!

Don't forget to get creative with it!
